Dig is a conceptually designed lyric book for musician Tom Waits’ rendition of "Heigh-ho " (a.k.a. "The Dwarf Marching Son"). The experimental typography and use of onomatopoeia visually interpret the lyrics and sounds of the song. The book’s unadorned materials reference the dismal atmosphere of African diamond mines. The cover is a topographical representation of a diamond mine that is divided into four separate layers, each corresponding to an individual level of the mine. As the readers open the successive layers, they dig into the book. {Project}
